DNS & Domains

Make sure visitors reach your website

What is a domain?

A domain is the name people type to find your website, such as example.com. Domain registration and website hosting are related services, but they are not the same thing.

Why we recommend transferring your domain

Keeping your domain registration and hosting with Usage Hosting makes renewals, DNS changes and support easier to coordinate. You can also leave registration with your existing provider.

How to prepare a domain transfer

  1. Confirm the domain is eligible to transfer and is not subject to a recent registration or transfer lock.
  2. Make sure you can access the email address associated with the domain.
  3. Request an authorization code from your current registrar when applicable.
  4. Ask our team to confirm the transfer process and any potential interruption before proceeding.

What is DNS?

DNS is the address book that tells browsers and email services where to find your website and mail. Common records include A/AAAA (website address), MX (mail delivery), and TXT (verification and email security).

Changing nameservers

Nameserver changes can take time to reach internet providers. Before changing them, make sure your website, email and any important third-party DNS records have been accounted for. Our team can help coordinate this.
